Abington Conservation Commission Continues Linwood Street Subdivision Hearing to October

Conservation · Meeting of August 25, 2026

Abington conservation panel pulls back from denying a contested Linwood Street subdivision. Commissioner Gene Matiosis withdrew a motion to deny the three-lot, wetland-crossing project after fellow board members said any denial needed to cite specific bylaw violations rather than general concerns, given a likely appeal. The commission instead voted 5-0 with one abstention to continue the hearing to October 27, with all materials due October 20.

Abutter Elise McMenamin told the board "this is the fifth time they have not completed what was asked of them," while commissioners flagged 117 trees slated for removal, 112 inside the buffer zone, and replacement plantings shown at four feet despite a six-to-eight-foot bylaw requirement. Attorney Scott Rubin argued the town's low-density bylaw entitles the applicant to build the subdivision "as of right." Elsewhere, the commission approved five other applications unanimously, including a pool setback fix and a nine-lot Doris Drive subdivision extension, and continued three enforcement cases, including one now drawing weekly escalating fines.
