Conservation · Meeting of July 28, 2026

Abington Conservation Commission votes to fine the owner of 225 Brockton Avenue as a two-year wetland enforcement standoff escalates. The commission voted unanimously July 28 to impose a $50 initial fine on the unresponsive owner, with weekly escalation to $100 and then $300 unless the owner makes written contact within five business days and appears at the August 25 meeting. Conservation Agent Nick Jenks confirmed the owner of record has not responded to a July 21 certified letter.

Member John Norton argued that a documented fine record is essential if the case reaches Superior Court: "A fine being ignored is a lot easier than a non-fine ticket being ignored when a judge is looking at it." In a separate matter, the commission voted unanimously to not ratify an enforcement order against Curtis Ford of the Ford Family Realty Trust at 209 Rockland Street after Ford demonstrated that a feature flagged on MassMapper as a filled pond was in fact a hand-dug skating rink built by his family in the late 1960s and restored to its original grade around 2004. The commission also voted 4 to 1 to require a new wetland scientist for a failed $20,000-plus berm restoration at 832 Randolph Avenue, and ordered peer review of a 15.7-acre resource area delineation on Brocklin Street before any development plans can advance.
