Abington Select Board Approves AB Mart Sale, Expands Trash Panel to 12
Select Board · Meeting of August 18, 2026
Abington Select Board triples its Trash Advisory Committee to 12 members and clears an AB Mart ownership change. Members voted unanimously to restructure the panel to seat all nine applicants alongside existing Board of Health and Finance Committee representatives, with member Ken calling it a chance to let volunteers "break off and talk about recycling" and budget issues separately. The board also approved transferring AB Mart Inc.'s Hancock Street store to new owner Ashish Patel and continued a dangerous-dog hearing for animals at 10 Colburn Lane, currently off-site in training.
Town Manager Michael Maresco reported raising the advertised salary for a vacant treasurer-collector post by $6,500 and the health agent post by $5,000 after weak applicant pools, and disclosed a monthslong project releasing executive session minutes dating to 1975 in response to a public records request, with the board voting to release another batch covering 2000 to 2011, one member abstaining.
