Abington Zoning Board Continues Two ADU Variance Petitions
Zoning Board · Meeting of July 9, 2026
Abington Zoning Board continues two accessory dwelling unit variance cases rather than rule. Vice Chair Robert Manning presided, joined by members Richard Negrelli and Andrew Burbine, over petitions for 243 Plymouth Street and 166 Birch Street. At Plymouth Street, representative Max Coppola sought a side setback variance from 10 feet to 5 feet to save a 32-inch tree; members balked at unfinished plans they said looked like "a big shed" and continued the case to August 13.
At Birch Street, attorney Andrew Tine argued outdated town zoning information created a "hardship" justifying an accessory dwelling unit in the Central Business District, where the 2025 town meeting eliminated that use; members worried about setting a precedent and continued the case to September 10 for town counsel review. Both votes were unanimous.
