Abington Select Board Names Town Manager Acting Treasurer-Collector Amid Staff Vacancy
ABINGTON — June 8, 2026 — Abington Select Board unanimously names Town Manager as acting treasurer-collector and advances veterans fund. The board voted 5-0 on all six substantive items at its June 8 meeting, including approving Town Manager Michael Maresco as acting treasurer-collector until a permanent hire is made — a designation legally required before the board can go to market on a water department borrowing note at its June 22 meeting. Maresco disclosed that the prior treasurer had not been completing monthly bank reconciliations, a fact noted in the town's management letter, though no missing funds were found; he said the FY2025 audit, handled by CBS, may not close until October or November at the earliest. The board also voted to establish a veterans transportation gift fund under MGL Chapter 44, Section 53A and accepted a $500 donation from Sunshore Health to the Council on Aging. Recreation Director Kelly Johnson reported that Eager Beaver summer camp has grown from 450 total enrollees in 2016 to 1,070 this summer with a waiting list of 417, limited not by staff but by a camp house too small to safely shelter more than 150 children.
