Abington Conservation Commission Approves Town Hall Rain Garden, Continues ADU Filing

ABINGTON — March 24, 2026 — Abington Conservation Commission approves rain garden at Town Hall, flags enforcement deadline at Helm Street. The commission voted unanimously March 24 to approve a Notice of Intent for a bioretention rain garden at 500 Glenowitz Way, just outside Town Hall, as part of the town's year-eight compliance with the federal EPA MS4 Phase 2 stormwater permit. Nick Christofori of Comprehensive Environmental Inc. said the project, expected to go to bid in May and be built by early fall, will treat stormwater currently flowing untreated into a wetland behind the building, disturbing just under 1,600 square feet of buffer zone. The commission also issued a certificate of compliance for an emergency pole replacement at 1103 Plymouth Street and continued a 900-square-foot accessory dwelling unit application at 65 Block Street to April 14, pending assignment of a state SE filing number. In public comment, neighbor William Creighton of 53 Vineyard Street Road presented Planning Board minutes alleging 640 cubic yards of fill — not the 240 cubic yards previously discussed — were placed on a Helm Street property near wetlands, with some areas reportedly reaching 16 feet deep; the commission's enforcement order deadlines for erosion controls and vehicle removal were set to expire the following day, with Conservation Agent Nick Jenks saying he had not yet confirmed compliance.
