Annie's Kindness Blankets hosts mental health event at Abington Senior Center
Council on Aging · Meeting of July 28, 2026
ABINGTON — Annie's Kindness Blankets brings its "Everlasting Hugs" drive home to the Abington Senior Center. The nonprofit's founder, who started the group after her mother, Annie, died by suicide following a struggle with depression roughly a decade ago, said the organization has grown from an initial batch of 35 blankets given to South Shore Hospital to more than 25,000 distributed worldwide. Tuesday's gathering, one of the group's first in-person community events since the COVID-19 pandemic, was open to any Abington resident, not just seniors, with the founder calling the blankets "everlasting hugs whenever you need them, happy or sad." Attendees earned raffle tickets for attending and for donating craft materials or food, and could claim a new sweatshirt with a donation, alongside pizza, water and donuts.
No Council on Aging board votes or formal business were recorded during the segment.
