Abington Planning Board approves two ADU and conversion site plans
Planning Board · Meeting of September 8, 2026
Abington Planning Board approves two projects, wrestles with state's new battery storage law. Chair Bruce Hughes told members a new state consolidated permitting process for solar and battery energy storage systems takes effect October 1, even though the town's solar bylaw doesn't address storage at all; the town is working with the Old Colony Planning Council to draft new rules. The board unanimously approved a limited site plan for an ADU at 243 Plymouth Street, represented by Max Coppola of Grady Consulting for the Lopes family, and waived a $25,000 surety requirement.
It also approved a three-unit conversion at 676 Bedford Street subject to conditions from peer-review engineer Larry's August 25 letter, covering driveway widening, trash access and lighting specs. A proposed ADU at 720 Hancock Street, brought by applicant Nino Lima, was continued to October pending architectural drawings, after neighbor Ashley Isor pressed for stormwater detail. Staff also flagged roughly 180 parcels townwide with fee-in-roadway title defects.
