Abington Cam Board Waives Bylaw, Seats Two New Directors
Other Committee · Meeting of August 12, 2026
Abington Community Access Media board waives bylaw, seats two directors after a five-year vacancy. Directors voted unanimously to waive a conflict-of-interest clause barring family members of staff, appointing Kathy Martin, the school committee's representative and mother of staffer Matt Lyons, alongside new director Ann Welch, a Board of Assessors and Council on Aging member. Executive Director Kevin Torchi reported the nonprofit's holdings, funded entirely by Comcast and Verizon franchise fees rather than taxes, total about $1,234,341, including a $667,633 money market account.
Torchi also detailed a stalled state bill that would send PEG stations 45 percent of new streaming-service fees, which drew 118 of 160 legislators as co-sponsors before being pulled from a larger bill this summer. "It's just a matter of time that this will be something that will come to fruition," Torchi said. The board also touted four regional Nor'easter awards and a new documentary, "Chain of Survival."
