Abington Board of Health Extends Donation Bin Cleanup Deadline to 24 Hours

ABINGTON — August 2, 2021 — Abington Board of Health unanimously extends donation bin cleanup deadline from one hour to 24 hours. The board voted at its August 2 meeting to amend Section 5C of the town's donation bin regulation, replacing a one-hour window for operators to remove refuse after receiving notice with a 24-hour grace period. Director of Public Health Marty Golightly recommended the change, noting that a one-hour deadline is impractical for operators who may be out of town, and said he would post the updated regulation the following day. The board also heard that 64 percent of Abington residents age 12 and older are vaccinated against COVID-19 — a figure one member called "too low" — and that the town is planning pediatric vaccination clinics in September and October. Eagle Scout candidate Nick Schultz, of 23 Nile Street, delivered the finished materials from his emergency preparedness project, including a binder, flash drive, and five FEMA-based video presentations now posted on Abington CAM's YouTube channel.
