Abington Board of Health Authorizes Agent to Sign Invoices, Clears All Tobacco Inspections

ABINGTON — April 8, 2026 — Abington Board of Health clears all 27 tobacco retailers and shifts invoice authority to its health agent. At the April 8 meeting, the board voted unanimously to authorize Health Agent Dylan Labonte to sign and submit invoices for payment without prior board approval after Interim CFO Chris Correa raised concerns about late fees under the current process; paid bills will be presented to the board at each subsequent meeting on a trial basis. The board approved four bills totaling $1,816.60, including an $85 Massachusetts Health Officers Association renewal, $262.60 in Amazon printer supplies, a $799 laptop for clerk Laura Renaud, and a $670 Solomon V&A services invoice. Labonte reported all 27 licensed tobacco establishments passed the first inspection series of the year, with a second round planned for October; he also flagged synthetic cannabinoid Delta 8 products for closer scrutiny in future inspections after a board member raised constituent concerns about high-potency products. Earth Day cleanup is set for Saturday, April 11, with roughly 100 registered volunteers including multiple Abington High School sports teams fanning out across town via GATRA buses.
