Town Meeting · Meeting of May 12, 2026
Abington town meeting warned an override failure would trigger $358,380 in Town Hall cuts. Town Manager Michael Maresco said the employee benefits budget would fall about $200,000 short, leaving Medicare increases and new family plan enrollments unfunded, and the IT department would be unable to hire a second staffer to back up sole technician Wayne, who Maresco said is "like a one-armed paper hanger, running all over town." Veterans' services, hazardous waste disposal funding and a regional health-services arrangement covering about four other communities are also at risk, Maresco said, adding he would meet this week with the official who runs the regional program. The treasurer's office would remain understaffed, risking payroll, billing and audit delays.
No vote was recorded at the meeting on the warrant article itself.
